ARCHIMEDEAN EXCOGITATION
25' x 10' x 10'
Boston, MA
On display in the lobby of Boston's Museum of Science, this sculpture regularly causes visitors to stop and stare in amazement. Balls move down nine simultaneous different tracks, bumping up against various eye-catching devices and musical instruments on their way. The large moving devices on the top of the sculpture draw visitors in for a closer look.

NEWTON'S DAYDREAM
30' x 36' x 36'
Salt Lake City, Utah
Two sizes of balls are used in this 30-foot, audiokinetic ball sculpture at the Clark Planetarium so that the action at the top can be seen by viewers below. The large vertical space allows for some exciting movement, as balls roll down spirals and staircases and fly through mid-air on their journey. This sculpture features an interactive wheel where visitors can affect the pathway of the balls.

"We have found that people watch 'Archimedean Excogitation' for much longer than they do exhibits of the very same mechanical devices - gears, levers, pulleys, and the like - that are displayed elsewhere in the museum in a more didactic fashion."
- Larry Bell, associate director
